How this compares to a FLIR Blackfly
This is the same class of USB3 global-shutter, 1.6 MP, high-frame-rate camera used in professional machine vision (for example the FLIR Blackfly S BFS-U3-16S2C, which runs the same Sony IMX273 global-shutter sensor). Those run over $400 for the camera body alone, with no lens, no free shipping, and no golf software. Here you get the camera, your choice of lens, free US shipping, and a SwingNerds plan discount for less.
GOOD BAY LIGHTING RECOMMENDED
At 250 FPS, each frame gets only a fraction of the exposure time of a 120 or 180 FPS camera, so more light is always better. The good news: paired with the bright F1.2 or F1.4 lens, the color version does well in ordinary, decently-lit bays. Only a genuinely dim room will leave footage dark, grainy, or motion-blurred.
If your bay is on the darker side, the monochrome version performs best in lower light — with no color filter over the pixels, it gathers more light and stays cleaner in dimmer bays. And for the most forgiving option of all, the 180 FPS or 120 FPS version handles dim rooms with room to spare.
This is a USB3 Vision machine-vision camera, the same interface FLIR and Basler cameras use. SwingNerds Vision drives it natively: one click in Settings installs 250fps camera support and it is ready to record, with no vendor SDK to wrestle with. One honest heads-up: it is not a UVC webcam, so it will not appear as a regular camera in apps like Zoom or OBS, and Windows Device Manager lists it as a "USB3 Vision Device" (that is normal). If you want a camera that also doubles as an everyday webcam, our 120 FPS and 180 FPS cameras are UVC and work in any app.
About this camera
The top of our swing-camera lineup: a USB golf simulator camera that captures 1440×1080 (1.6 MP) color at 250 FPS with a true global shutter. Every frame of your golf swing is sharp and free of the rolling-shutter skew that ruins fast-motion video on ordinary webcams. This is a real step up from our 120 FPS and 180 FPS 720p cameras: full 1080-line resolution and more frames, for the sharpest impact detail and the smoothest ultra-slow-motion playback we offer.
This is the color version
Color gives natural-looking footage that's easiest to read at a glance, and it's the right pick for most people and for side-by-side video where color helps. Want maximum sharpness and better low-light performance instead? The monochrome version gathers more light and resolves finer detail (no color filter over the pixels), the way professional high-speed motion cameras do. Same price.
Works with your launch monitor
Compatible with virtually any indoor golf simulator setup. Use this camera alongside GSPro, Rapsodo MLM2PRO, Uneekor EYE XO / QED, SkyTrak / SkyTrak+, FlightScope Mevo / Mevo+, Square Golf, Garmin R10, ProTee VX, or any other launch monitor that runs on a Windows or macOS PC. The camera records the visual swing; your launch monitor handles the ball data. SwingNerds syncs the two together for frame-by-frame swing analysis with your shot data overlaid.

Mounting
Add the $15 tripod adapter to mount this on any tripod or clamp
This camera uses a compact machine-vision body with small M2/M3 mounting holes (screws included), not the 1/4"-20 tripod thread on our 120 and 180 FPS cameras, so a standard tripod, arm, or clamp will not thread onto it directly.
One small part fixes that: our Tripod Mount Adapter ($15) bolts onto the camera and gives you a standard 1/4"-20 stud. Once it is on, any normal tripod, arm, or clamp works. Add one per camera. Questions? Email support@swingnerds.com.
Best for
Well-lit golf simulator bays where you want the sharpest, highest-frame-rate swing footage available and you have the lighting to support it. The jump from 720p to 1080p plus 250 FPS means more detail across the whole frame and smoother ultra-slow-motion review of exactly what the club is doing through the ball. This is the camera for serious swing-analysis work and for commercial bays that want the best image quality on offer. Not the right pick for dim bays: get the 120 or 180 FPS model for those.
FAQ
How is this different from the 120 and 180 FPS cameras?
Two jumps at once: resolution and frame rate. The 120 and 180 FPS models are 720p; this one is 1440×1080 (full 1080 lines) at 250 FPS. You get more detail across the whole image and smoother slow-motion. The trade-off is that it needs more light, so it's built for well-lit bays and for people who want the best image quality we sell.
Should I get color or monochrome?
This is the color version: natural-looking footage that's easy to read, which suits most people. If you want maximum sharpness and better performance in less-than-ideal light, the monochrome version gathers more light and resolves finer detail because there's no color filter over the pixels. Both are the same price.
How much lighting do I really need?
Decent overhead room lighting is usually enough, especially with the bright F1.2 or F1.4 lens. Extra dedicated lighting aimed at your hitting area (LED panels or shop lights) gives the cleanest footage but isn't required. If your bay runs on the darker side, the monochrome version performs best in lower light, and the 120 or 180 FPS versions are more forgiving still.
How does this compare to a FLIR or other machine-vision camera?
It's the same class of hardware: USB3, global shutter, 1440×1080 (1.6 MP), high frame rate. The difference is value and simplicity. Cameras like the FLIR Blackfly S run over $400 for the body alone, ship without a lens, and require a vendor SDK to run. This one includes your choice of lens, ships free from the US, sets up with one click inside SwingNerds Vision, and comes with a SwingNerds plan discount.
Does this work with my launch monitor?
Yes. Any golf launch monitor that runs on a Windows or macOS computer (GSPro, Rapsodo MLM2PRO, Uneekor EYE XO / QED, SkyTrak / SkyTrak+, FlightScope Mevo / Mevo+, Square Golf, Garmin R10, ProTee, etc.) can be paired with this camera through SwingNerds Vision.
What lens distance do I need?
The 2.8mm F1.2 wide-angle lens works at roughly 4-8 feet from your hitting position, which fits most standard sim bays. The 2.8-12mm F1.4 adjustable lens covers 8-12 feet and lets you dial in the zoom. For tighter or longer bays, email us before ordering and we'll recommend the right lens.
Can I use this for non-golf applications?
Outside of golf, this works with machine-vision software that speaks USB3 Vision / GenICam (Hikrobot MVS, for example). It is not a UVC webcam, so it will not show up in Zoom, OBS, or other webcam apps. If you want one camera for both swing capture and general webcam duty, choose our 120 FPS or 180 FPS model, which are UVC and work everywhere.
Need a different lens for your bay?
Bay too tight or too long for the included lenses? Email support@swingnerds.com before ordering and we'll help you pick the right lens. We may have 1.7mm, 2.5mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 12mm, or 16mm CS-mount options available. Send us your bay dimensions and we'll recommend what fits.
